i was out hiking in the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument today for
the EQP. Started at 1900Z and worked 25 Q's on 20M and 1 on 40M. i was using my KX1 #292 (3W) with a 10 foot whip (no top hat) and a 13 foot drag wire, pedestrian mobile. The trail was 30% deep snow and then ice and mud, but we made it through several miles. My XYL (N0OPM) was doing the logging. We hiked around the hills in the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. You can take a virtual tour by going to http://www.nps.gov/flfo/ This is beautiful mountain valley just west of Pikes Peak and holds spectacular remnants of the earth's prehistoric life. Huge petrified redwoods and incredibly detailed fossils of ancient insects and plants reveal a very different Colorado of long ago. Almost 35 million years ago, enormous volcanic eruptions buried the then-lush valley and petrified the redwood trees that grew there. A lake formed in the valley and the fine-grained sediments at its bottom became the final resting-place for thousands of insects and plants. These sediments compacted into layers of shale and preserved the delicate details of these organisms as fossils. i really thank all these guys for making my hike successful...Here is my contact list: W4FMS Frank WD7Y Ed N2ED Ed K9EW Ed (3 in a row?) Paul is a walking advertisement for the KX1....LITERALLY. I heard him all
over 20m for the 3 hours that I operated and he was ALWAYS one of the strongest QRP stations here in So Cal...559 to 599. Amazing! A fine op, too. Thanks for the QSO, Paul. Eric/Rick (my nickname...for some reason cw ops have trouble with "Eric" more than with "Rick"...so use either) KE6US -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of [hidden email] Sent: Saturday, March 12, 2005 7:15 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] EQP in Florissant Fossil Beds w0rw/pm i was out hiking in the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument today for the EQP.
