Strange issue
I setup the K3 for diversity RX Now I can not transmit CW. I get an ERR TXF indication. What needs to be changed to correct? This error is caused by selecting a filter other than the 2.8 or 2.7 kHz
filter as the transmit filter. Use CONFIG:FLTX to select that filter for CW/DATA/SSB. (Except if you have FM (13 kHz) or AM filters (6 kHz) you must select those filters in the FM and AM modes). 73, Victor, 4X6GP Rehovot, Israel Formerly K2VCO CWops no. 5 http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/ On 10 Jan 2019 20:08, Mpridesti via Elecraft wrote: > Strange issue > > I setup the K3 for diversity RX > > Now I can not transmit CW. Ok understand except how do you select AM and have it stay?
Went to the CONFIG menu and selected FLTX (it shows CW in al FL numbers) Tried to select a different mode I.e. AM but it does not stay AM Regards, Mark, K1RX > On Jan 10, 2019, at 1:49 PM, Victor Rosenthal 4X6GP <[hidden email]> wrote: > > This error is caused by selecting a filter other than the 2.8 or 2.7 kHz filter as the transmit filter. Mark,
It is easy to set up the filter enables for each mode - for both transmit and receive using the K3 Utility Configure Filters selection. Save the filter configuration to the K3 and operate. Much easier than trying to set them for each mode in the menu. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/10/2019 2:04 PM, Mpridesti via Elecraft wrote: > Ok understand except how do you select AM and have it stay? > > Went to the CONFIG menu and selected FLTX (it shows CW in al FL numbers) Tried to select a different mode I.e. Select AM mode and then go to CONFIG:FLTX.
Or (better) use the he configuration tab of the K3 utility, as Don suggested. Thanks Vic
Guess I need to spend some quality time in the filter configuration portion of the manual. Did manage to get the BW set so I use CW again but need to really setup the filters by BW. Thanks all! Mark,
Use K3 Utility, it is quick and easy. Only enable one filter for for transmit on each mode. You can enable multiple filters for receive on each mode. K3 Utility makes it quick and easy - just check off the applicable boxes and save to the K3/K3S. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/10/2019 5:35 PM, Mpridesti via Elecraft wrote: > Thanks Vic > > Guess I need to spend some quality time in the filter configuration portion of the manual. I forgot to say that most modes will use the 2.7/2.8 kHz for transmit.
The exceptions are AM and FM. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/10/2019 5:35 PM, Mpridesti via Elecraft wrote: > Thanks Vic > > Guess I need to spend some quality time in the filter configuration portion of the manual. Interesting to note that CW transmit requires the SSB filter not the CW
filter. -John NI0K Don Wilhelm wrote on 1/10/2019 4:47 PM: > I forgot to say that most modes will use the 2.7/2.8 kHz for transmit. > The exceptions are AM and FM. > > 73, > Don W3FPR > > On 1/10/2019 5:35 PM, Mpridesti via Elecraft wrote: >> Thanks Vic >> >> Guess I need to spend some quality time in the filter configuration >> portion of the manual. For goodness sakes, give up on the CONFIG menu in the radio and use the utility. It’s so much easier and you can see all the filters at once.

John,
No mystery - the stock K3/K3S includes the 2.7kHz filter or the 2.8kHz with the upgrade. So CW transmit has to work with that filter - the DSP does the rest. So if you select a CW width filter for CW transmit, you will get the ERR TXF message. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/10/2019 5:52 PM, John Simmons wrote: > Interesting to note that CW transmit requires the SSB filter not the CW > filter. > > -John NI0K > > Don Wilhelm wrote on 1/10/2019 4:47 PM: >> I forgot to say that most modes will use the 2.7/2.8 kHz for transmit. >> The exceptions are AM and FM. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Normal for most radios due to carrier frequency and receiver offset for CW. Elecraft is not the only that does it this way.
As filters with reduced bandwidth we find that group delay increases. With this CW wave shapes become a difficult task. Wider filters are much easier to generate good quality CW elements.
