Good Evening Folks,
Once again my nephew has worked me in to the ground. I am very relaxed :) The woodshed holds enough seasoned wood to get me through the end of the heating season. We are not going to stop cutting but will put the remainder under wraps outside. He'll get a decent amount home to Vancouver too. They like to have a fire now and then to heat their house. I've been warned of a recommencement of the folks playing music on 14050 kHz. If you hear music when you tune in look either 10 kHz up or down. I'll try to run off the edge of the jammer enough to allow weak signals to get through. Which brings up another point: I'll be running both nets from Shute Park in Hillsboro, Oregon. I'll not be at home on the ridge at 2000 feet with a doublet up at 65' but rather down in the valley with city RF noise and a doublet mounted as an inverted V. I was able to find a good deal on some Trojan T-105s so I will be running from batteries again. Both at the park and as a regular occurrence. Up until my deep cycle battery decided it was time to move on to battery heaven I've been running nets on emergency power. Occasionally I lose AC power for minutes to hours at a time. Battery power helps me through those times. I've grown used to being able to run CW while the house is off the grid. I am going to buy a few more before the next price jump and charge them via solar panels. Hopefully I can get more of my house of the grid in the future (like the well!!!) Since we will be under surveillance during ECN I may be distracted by folks asking questions while I have my normally puzzled expression firmly planted on my face. Be patient, I will get to you. Hopefully I will plant a few seeds and at least show them how CW works across the county with minimal gear. I think I'll take a few other CW rigs along and show them a variety of paddles too. I am going to have my headphones on through a Y-cable with the other section running a computer speaker. I've rigged the speaker to run through an Anderson Power Pole connection to my battery. If there is AC power available, however, I'll have a backup Astron power supply so I don't have to lug the batteries a hundred yards to the operation position. I am laying out contingency plans tonight. These are ARES folks so I'd better be prepared ;) Please join us: Sunday 2300z (Sunday 4pm PDT) 14050 kHz as per the jammer's tastes. Monday 0200z (Sunday 7pm PDT) 7045 kHz Until tomorrow, Kevin.
