Good Evening,
The requiem for Pavarotti continues throughout the day; such a voice!
The weather has been quite nice up here this week. I've been able to keep
the windows open and have not even thought of building a fire. However,
that does not mean I've been sitting waiting for winter to arrive with no
wood ready for me to burn. It is a great way to break up a day in front
of a computer while getting a little exercise. Sometime last night I
discovered I would have to create my own ones and zeros. FSK does not
come easily to the airwaves; I must craft each pulse and tone. Not sure
yet whether they should be square or sinusoidal waves.
The elk have been in the back yard in the last few days but have not
nibbled the antenna's guy lines. They simply browse their way through and
peek inside. The deer are noisier. They have awakened me a couple times
by snorting in my windows. Sometimes I wonder about them: don't they know
I live here by now? The squirrels definitely do because they have run
over my feet at least twice today! Wish Sam was not retired because I
would not mind cleaning up a few left over bits of squirrel. He does not
even raise his head when they barrel through the house. Maybe he needs a
companion.
Twenty meters allowed a few contacts this week and forty was open
nicely across the country just the other evening. The antennas are up, the
battery bank is charged, and all the radios are ready to go. Fingers are
not too stiff from typing, soldering, wire wrapping, wood cutting or
splitting. I think we could attempt another few nets just to check
propagation.
