Elecraft CW Net Announcement

kevinr@coho.net
Good Evening,
Today was very nice.  Quite warm though; it got to 62 degrees under a
sunny sky.  It felt hot out.  First time in a long time I walked around
outside in a t-shirt.  Luckily the biting flies have not yet appeared.
Once it gets warm they show up for two weeks.  Then they are gone for a
full year.  I must be thankful for that.  Compared to the Midwest where I
got eaten alive by mosquitoes this is OK with me.  On my walk I found out
I have some spies.  There was elk sign only ten feet from the house.  I
wonder what they think?  If I would have been on my radio they would have
blocked my view!

Propagation was decent this week.  Reports of openings on 6 meters mean
the E season is getting underway.  I started looking into activating a
SOTA summit and find I could almost do it from home.  The mountain I live
on is listed.  Now do I walk downhill a bit until I get to where I can
walk upward again for 25 meters in elevation change?  I am just shy of the
30 meter from the summit working area for a SOTA activation site.  But, if
I walk to the top of the mountain I'll have three large towers to contend
with.  I think I'll find a site below the summit which had not been
clearcut and use the numerous fir trees as antennas supports of an easily
mounted sloper or end fed half wave.  It is nice to know I don't have to
use any vehicle at all to activate my first peak.

If anyone is interested in acting as a relay station on either net
please email me.  I will turn the net over to you for a few minutes so you
can call areas in my skip zone.  It sure would prove helpful to those I
cannot reach directly.

Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening.

1) Hail signs  (first letter or two of the suffix of your call)
2) NCS help  (as well as QSP/QNP <relay> help)

Sunday 2200z (Sunday 3 PM PDT) 14050 kHz
Monday 0000z (Sunday 5 PM PDT)  7045 kHz

    Stay well,
       Kevin.  KD5ONS

I have not read your USA SOTA association rules, but at least in the
General rules there is no requirement to climb a 25 metre ascent. The
only requirements are that operation must not take place near to a
vehicle, all equipment must be carried to the operating site, and that
site must be within 25 metres vertically of the defined summit. With
many summits you are allowed to park quite close to the summit and
within the activation zone. How far you walk from your car is your
decision.

I have done a few summits in the UK.
