Good Evening,
The weather has been quite changeable this week. High temperatures in the mid 70s, then the mid 50s, and now back in the mid 60s. Cloudy and cold with some rain to sunny and rather warm (apologies to those in warmer climes) in the mid 70s. But the changeable nature with the sun and warmth at times is a sign of the commencement of the dry season. Summer is starting very late this year; I hope it lasts until October. The sun brought out a large number of critters. Two days ago I saw a doe with two tiny fawns. A mile later another doe with a fawn. Then I saw a coyote and a covey of California quail. I have only seen one grouse thus far and it was a female ruffed grouse. No spruce grouse lately. I have one Steller's Jay which likes the sound of a fork on a plate. She enjoys leftover rice and the ends to my loaves of bread. Propagation on twenty meters was spotty this week. To the east it was poor but to California twenty meters worked rather well. Why has it become a local band? I heard a noise on my roof on Wednesday that sounded like a falling branch. The wind was high so I thought the tree was simply sloughing off dead limbs. When I went out for a look I saw the balun to my spare G5RV hung in a branch with the feedline lying on the roof. I have soldered that joint three times thus far and it looks like I get to practice soldering in the wind one more time. Luckily it is much warmer than the last time when there was snow on the roof. I should have used a torch that time but used my Weller soldering gun instead. I may need to drop that antenna for a more thorough refit. If anyone is interested in acting as a relay station on either net please email me. I will turn the net over to you for a few minutes so you can call areas in my skip zone. It sure would prove helpful to those I cannot reach directly. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP <relay> help) Sunday 2200z (Sunday 3 PM PDT) 14050 kHz Monday 0000z (Sunday 5 PM PDT) 7045 kHz Stay well, Kevin.
