Good Evening,
Another very chilly week with one more on the way. Folks are already talking about how much it feels like Fall. Next week some days won't get into the 60s so it is cooling off. Not that it ever got hot. 77 was the hottest day all year. But only five days in the 70s is not a summer. Oh well, there is always next year. There have been more bear around and there were signs of at least one mountain lion. That may be why I have not heard many coyotes around :) The grouse and quail populations were very low this year due to the cold and wet hatching season. I wonder if that means the rodent populations will be low too since there will be little prey for the coyotes and bobcats and mountain lions to eat? As far as my backyard, crawlspace and house are concerned there are a ton of rodents out there. Propagation was strongly effected by the sun this week. There were so many flares and CMEs that I was having a hard time hearing for the background noise. QRN was strong from Tuesday onward. Hopefully the ionosphere has regenerated and the influx of ions has slowed to a dull roar. That will help on twenty meters but I think only the onset of Autumn will help on forty meters. I did make one contact beyond the Cascades and Sierras last week so that is a good sign. Maybe I'll reach back into the plains again soon. The sun is rising later and setting earlier so that helps. I'll start checking 80 meters again soon. It is a good band for working up and down the Coast from Northern California and up into British Columbia. I get to meet my neighbors that way. If anyone is interested in acting as a relay station on either net please email me. I will turn the net over to you for a few minutes so you can call areas in my skip zone. It sure would prove helpful to those I cannot reach directly. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP <relay> help) Sunday 2200z (Sunday 3 PM PDT) 14050 kHz Monday 0000z (Sunday 5 PM PDT) 7045 kHz Stay well, Kevin.
