Good Evening,
Unbelievable weather today; 77 degrees and more warm weather coming. A few sunny days with 68 degrees followed by a few more days at 70 or better. Maybe summer is starting. A little late but that's OK. The nighttime lows will also rise, up into the mid and high 50s. That will be nice. I can open the windows and not worry about it getting so cold I cannot sleep. I went for a hike a few days ago to check the berries. No luck. I found one but the rest had gone to fill the bellies of some very happy bears and coyotes. The meter reader stopped by yesterday and told me of some more mountain lions. Seems he can't find many deer in his normal hunting area. The lions appear to have eaten them. No wonder I am not seeing very many of them here. We are in a high cycle for those cats and the deer population is dropping off in response. The bears have also cycled upward so any berries I thought of eating will have to be next year. But they are shy so I can still find a few on my land. Propagation was decent yesterday. Some local noise but not a problem for decent copy. Some QSB but then the sun has been actively tossing stuff at us. While it does improve propagation it creates some noise and a little flutter too. Makes a contact an interesting roller coaster ride. Since 40 meters has not elicited many check ins over the last month or so I am changing the time for it. I announced it during the net last week but that does not help much for those of you who could not hear me. So, the forty meter net will be held one hour later until the time change this fall. Monday 0100z or Sunday 6 PM PDT. That gives me a lot of time between nets for dinner and chores. The net report will also come out later too. Hopefully by 9 PM instead of 8 PM. I hope this helps gather a few more people. I have been told the band opens up about half an hour before this net will begin so maybe we can work further to the east. We shall see. If anyone is interested in acting as a relay station on either net please email me. I will turn the net over to you for a few minutes so you can call areas in my skip zone. It sure would prove helpful to those I cannot reach directly. Please join us tomorrow afternoon and evening. 1) Hail signs (first letter or two of the suffix of your call) 2) NCS help (as well as QSP/QNP <relay> help) Sunday 2200z (Sunday 3 PM PDT) 14050 kHz Monday 0100z (Sunday 6 PM PDT) 7045 kHz Stay well, Kevin.
