Good Evening,
It was nice to have a day of sun. The forest floor is just starting
to green up. The early plants need to get as much light as they can
before the alder leaf out. The spiders were making their presence
felt. Very few bugs out but they know better than I do about hunting
conditions. No biting flies, yet.
There was a lot of damage from the heavy snow this year. The alder
had been stripped of small branches while the fir lost any weak limbs or
tops. The game trails seemed to be going in circles so I moved a few
limbs for them. The cedar trees were losing chips from rectangular
holes. I have been hearing the Pileated woodpecker's call but not the
hammering. Can't imagine whacking my head against a tree for a living.
But I have had jobs where I dreamed of it :)
The sun is blank. SFU is at 69. Maybe there will be less noise so
weaker stations get through. One never can tell. When you hit a school
of hungry bluegills it's amazing; until a loon pops out of the water
behind you and cackles. I did stay in the canoe but it was close.
