Elecraft CW Net - Not this Sunday

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
As you may or may not know Field Day is this weekend.  The bands will be jam packed with signals; hopefully a few of mine will join in.  Therefore: I will not be on the air for the Sunday nets.  By that time I will probably be sleeping and trying to get ready for the 90 min commute to downtown Portland.  Forty-five minute drive and then a forty minute train ride on the quicker days.
I hope you all have fun getting on the air or avoiding amateur radio for the day; whichever makes you feel better.  I know at least a few of you will be on the air for community events or on 30 meters avoiding the bedlam.  I don't contest much, just a few times a year.  But, field day is a little different.  You get to hear a bunch of folks on the air who are just starting out or reviving their rusty fist.  Much like the deer hunters who used to come to Wisconsin from Chicago.  They had not been outside hiking since the year before so were quite out of shape.
Speaking of hiking and being out of shape I took another hike today and saw a part of the property I had not visited in four or five years.  You'd think that 20 acres would be easily covered on a regular basis but believe me, with all the trees and rugged terrain it is not simple to traverse.  If it were clear cut it would be easy to survey but it is fairly wooded to very dense in areas.  Along my way I found a good path.  The deer and elk have been using this for quite some time so even the trees allowed them through.
I walked until I met the edge of the property and kept going for another hour.  The salmon berries are just starting to get ripe.  Some were quite tart while others are still green.  The blackberry crop will be very large in another few weeks.  Thimble berries are blooming so I hope I can get at least a handful before the animals eat them all.  Turk's cap lilies are not yet blooming this high up but I did see the first foxgloves as I hiked.  There were daisies everywhere you looked in the large clearcuts.  Then I got into the neighboring forest and hiked to the slough.  I was looking for signs of beaver work but only found it from previous years.  I'll keep looking.
The weather has been jumping back and forth from warm and sunny to chilly and grey.  Today was mostly grey and chilly enough to require a fire.  Later in the day the overcast broke up a bit to allow some sun through but the fire still feels nice.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit warmer so our FD venue will be comfortable.  But it is only a few miles away so I can always come home and get more clothes if the need arises.
Remember, no nets this weekend.  I will see you all again on July 1st.  Have fun and stay safe.
       73,
          Kevin.  KD5ONS
