Elecraft CW Net Report for April 2nd and 3rd, 2006

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
My ears have started to lose that ringing sound.  40 meters was very
QRN ridden.  I think I lost a few folks to it.  At this location the noise
was often above S4.  Bruce, N0BK, mentioned he thought the storms were
right between us.  I think so too but K5WA was losing a few characters
from me as I was from him due to the static.  All I know is someone was
getting a very large storm.  Or maybe a large number of somebodies were
getting a number of storms.  Makes for tough copy.
But, twenty meters was much nicer.  The normally strong signal from
Ray was very hard to copy today.  I think he said SC but that would be a
new state for him to use as a KX1 site.  Never can tell since he did check
in  from the Caribbean once :) Dick had the strongest signal on twenty.  I
think the storm had the largest signal on forty though.
We had a number of new folks stop by.  WB3AAL is well know to many in
the QRP field.  His 5 watt signal from a K1 was very easy to copy here in
Oregon.  He wrote me an email stating he was using a Butternut vertical.
It worked well.  W1TF was up and down on twenty.  At first I could just
catch a letter here and there.  Then he popped up to S7 for the longest
time and again back to S2.

On 14050.50 kHz at 2300z:
W3WH - Bill - PA - ??
AB9V - Mike - IN - K2 - 3993
N0BK - Bruce - MN - K2 - 3646
VE3XL - Ric - ON - K1 - 968
ND0V - Greg - CO - KX1 - 1162
W1TF - Ty - GA - K1 - 1423         QNI #25!!
K2HYD - Ray - SC ?? - KX1 - 608
WB3AAL - Ron - PA - K1 - 1011
W2XS - John - NY - K2 - 2111
K4NVJ - Joe - AL - K1 - 764
K6DGW - Fred - CA - K2 - 4398
N6JW - John - CA - K2 - 3290
W0NTA - Dick - CO - K2 - 3900 with a booming signal!
KI8JM - Bob - OH - K2 - 3630       QNI #20!!

On 7045 kHz at 0200z:
W1TF - Ty - GA - K1 - 1423
W6ZH - Pete - CA - K1 - 553
K4JPN - Steve - GA - K2 - 1422
VE3XL - Ric - ON - K1 - 968        QNI #95!!!
KV6K - Brian - CA - KX1 - 1270
K5WA - Bob - TX - K2 - 5119
N0BK - Bruce - MN - K2 - 3646      QNI #60!!!
W6MN - Frank - NV - ??

Moving the nets in time did make an effect.  I found I was able to
debug another circuit and get more chores done.  The wood is in, the wash
is done, the dishes are done, and I was able to clean another corner of
the house.  I got some studying done too.  That was nice.  I feel relaxed
except for my ear drums!
If there are any errors or you wish to fill in any of the blanks
please send me an email.  Thanks once again for a very nice showing.  On
twenty there were a number of pileups where all I could hear was a howl.
Then a few letters would pop out.  I am getting incrementally better at
digging out your calls.
Tom was off handing out counties in Missouri.  Too bad I was busy with
chores and not able to get on the air.  It would have been nice to work
him in a few of them.  One of these days I should go to the four corner
point nearby and hand out four counties at once.  I don't think any of
them are rare but it might just be fun to get out in the woods and work on
the air.  In a few weeks I will be out working QRP to the Field with each
of the Elecraft rigs and two other QRP rigs.  That will be an interesting
test of equipment and field skills.
Until next week please take care,
        73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS  (Net Control Operator 5th Class)

Kevin,

Forgot to add in my earlier 40m ECN report that you were the only ECN
station heard here RST 339, almost 33A, under strong Russian SSB. Lots of
QRN here as well. 3DA0VB had mentioned QRN earlier, so it seemed to be
covering a wide area.

Hi Geoff,

Nice to know someone outside North America is hearing the net. I
imagine this situation might improve, at least on 20 m, in few months.
