Good Evening,
Forty meters was once again interesting. Signals were anywhere from S0 to S9 but QRN went from S5 to S7. I walked outside after the second net and could barely hear the rain falling around me. I saw the cat making noises but did not hear him. Kind of like the day after a rock concert when you sat right up front ;) But, that being said, the second net was most productive and lasted for over an hour. I just totalled my two lists: 38 contacts tonight with one from Ireland! The bands seem to work even without sunspots; but we did get a blast from the sun not very long ago which created a few aurora. That helps propagation for a while. By the way I did find a source for right angle, single row header sockets. The folks at Norcal aimed me at Samtec. I await their catalog. Thank you for all the responses I received to my request for information. Looks like my roof repairs are holding up through the downpour. Rain is to continue for the next couple days. Then I can fix the last few holes and maybe, just maybe, get a chance to finish the roof. Sure would be nice if we had an official dry season this year! The picnic for the air show volunteers was today in Hillsboro. I hope they did not get too wet. I was unable to attend because they seem to plan these things without giving a thought to ECN. Hmmph! However, schaden freude is not in my nature. A couple years ago I did take my gear to one of their picnics and found an inverted V worked better then my doublet. So I learned something from that temporary lashup and have been working ECN from a V ever since. Maybe one day I'll dig a big hole, fill it with rebar, and hoist up a tower. On said tower would be a 20 meter beam and a 40 meter quad. By that point the sunspot cycle would be on the upswing and I'd be able to work the world. Ah, dreams :) Until next week stay well, 73, Kevin.
