Elecraft CW Net Report for December 4th, 2006

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
After reading Stephanie's note I made sure to check my antenna, OFTEN!
It was not at fault this evening but I wish it had been.  At least I could
fix a downed antenna.  Propagation?  I cannot fix that.  On the first net
I did not check in one of you after I heard Tom.  I called, you answered,
but Tom was the one who could hear.  When I figured that out I passed the
net to him.  He checked in VE3XL and was gone.  I got a note from K6DGW so
I know there are others who got checked in but I did not hear anyone after
the first three: N0SS, W6ZH, and KJ7BS.
On forty I heard Tom and worked a few myself.  By the time I asked him
if he was available the band must have died since he was nowhere to be
found.  I was reading Space Weather last night when they mentioned a solar
wind stream headed our way.  Maybe it hit this afternoon.  Last week the
bands both shut off like a switch.  This week there was a slow fade.  I
received reports of QSB from Hawaii and from Southern California.  No one
East of me mentioned any.
Rough copy was the order of the evening though.  Good thing I had some
fancy things to prepare for dinner ;)  Next week I have a commemoration.
I'd like you all to join me on the air for the first anniversary.
December 10th, 2005 I lost Pat.  It has been helpful running the net since
then.  Something steady to hold on to; a responsibility to keep me
focussed.  Now that I have a new work area I can break it in by running my
first net on a special day.  Please join me next week.

    On to the lists =>

On 14050 kHz at 0000z:
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008
W6ZH - Pete - CA - K2 - 5138
KJ7BS - Mark - Icom 706
VE3XL - Ric - ON - Ten Tec ??
K6DGW - Fred - CA - K2 - 4398
   possibly more???

On 7045 kHz at 0258z:
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008
AH6RE - Curt - HI - KX1 - 464
KT5E - Jay - CO - K2 - 5037
W6ZH - Pete - CA - K2 - 5138
AE6GC - Jack - CA - KX1 - 1403
K6PJV - Dale - CA - K2 - 5345

Thank you all for the 'interesting' evening ;)  Jack, AE6GC, told me I
was fading and then he popped right back up out of the noise!  Tom gave me
a 579 on 20 meters and then simply disappeared when I gave him the net.
Curt mentioned QSB on my signal as he mentioned a rainy day with 70 degree
temperatures in Hawaii.  Then Pete mentioned 70 degree temperatures
again.  Good thing Jay had talked about 15 degrees or I'd think I was the
cold one :)  It took a while for my fire to warm up the house this morning
but currently it is 67 degrees back here.  Next week I may be wearing a
tee shirt while running the net from my new location.  I'm not sure what
Sam will think of me invading 'his' space though.  Hopefully he'll simply
roll over after I feed him some more chicken breast!
Please join me next week for a tribute to KD5PZO (SK),
       73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS  (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
