Elecraft CW Net Report for January 7th & 8th, 2007

Kevin Rock
Thank you Folks,
It took some effort but we got 25 check ins tonight!  On forty meters
the QSB was making life difficult but with a little help from my friends I
worked cross-country to Florida!  WooHoo!  The twenty meter net ran for a
little over an hour while the forty meter net took a little over 45
minutes.  Forty took some timing though; one second an op would be up then
they would be right back down again.  The middle of the country seemed to
be most effected.  For some odd reason I was able to work Beaverton,
Oregon.  N7NLU was easy copy plus he could hear me too.  Normally if I can
copy him at all he cannot hear more than a few characters out of me.

Weather here has been changeable; even for Oregon ;)  Dry snow one day
followed by wet snow the next.  Then we get drenched in rain.  When I got
home Friday night it was at the perfect temperature for all of the rain to
hit the snow in the trees and cause it to fall as big wads of slush.  In
the thirty seconds or so it took for me to get my groceries, mail, and
satchel picked up from the front seat I was drenched.  Luckily I could
shake off some of the slush but most of it went right down my collar and
chilled me pretty well.  Good thing Sam had blown on the fire to get it
going a bit better before I came in or I'd be a Kevin-cicle still!
My goal of working on circuits this winter has been thwarted.  But, I
am making great progress on the software side of things.  Hopefully after
I am finished with the project at work I can dive right back in and finish
up another paying project while working in my new (and very recently
re-remodled :) work area.
I am hoping to find a local person with a mill.  If I cannot sell my
downed timber for a decent price I do not want to burn it.  If I can goes
shares with them and have a bunch of dimension lumber I can build a deck
and a few other framed goodies next year.  Some of it is clear timber but
the mills are in a down cycle.  I was advised to sell it as firewood.
That would break my heart.  Good, clear Doug fir makes great dimensioned
lumber.  I would also enjoy using the very wood which Pat and I had on the
property to build something nice.  I think she would like that too.
From the feel of things I think next week's nets may be even better
than this evening's.  I would warm up a rig early to find a spot to catch
my attention :)  I very much enjoy the howl of a single tone when I finish
my QNI ? K.  I don't get much intelligible result from it but I like the
sound!  Tom is much better at working the pileups than I am.  One day I
may actually learn how to run a net.
    Thanks for the fun times,
       73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS  (Net Control Station 5th Class)
