Elecraft CW Net Report for January 8th and 9th, 2006

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
QSB was the name of the game tonight.  Plus conditions would change in
the course of a sentence.  If there are any errors (no doubt in my mind
there will be more than one) please send me the corrections and I'll post
them.  Tom helped me on the first net but was gone very early in the
second one.  He could not quite get N4CU and I only caught a letter here
and there.  I did find N4CU in QRZ with a K2 listed so the chances are
good he was trying to check in.  The rest of the folks on the twenty meter
net were fair copy to me but reciprocal propagation was not necessarily
the case ;)

On 14050 kHz at 2350z:
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - oo8     S 7-8  and then gone  QNI #120!!
W0CZ - Ken - ND - K2 - 1031    S 3-7
K6DGW - Fred - CA - K2 - 4398  S 1-2
N4CU - Robert - FL - with a K2 according to QRZ   ESP at best
N7NLU - Karl - OR - K2 - 4227  S 3
AB9V - Mike - IN - K2 - 3993   S 5
KB0FB - Carl - IA - non Elecraft but working on RF board of K1 - 2126  S 7

On forty meters things were not any better.  I was hearing long with Pat
in Georgia just before the net.  Tom was very weak and gave me an ESP
never to be heard again.  Then Dave blasted in from KY so I pressed him
into service as NCS.  He ran four stations of which I heard two.  Curt was
very strong here and Randy was S2 with some flutter.  The K7 station may
have been very near me because I never heard a peep out of him.  Lastly I
had K5?U with a K2 SN 2281.  I am pretty sure I copied the serial number
correctly but the only station I've worked before who is even close is
K5PU with a different SN.  Unless Mike built another rig I may have a
busted call.

On 7045 kHz at 0252 kHz:
K4BEH - Pat - GA - Ten Tec Omni working on K2 5041(?)   S 2-5
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - oo8   Gave me an ESP reading and went away himself
:)
K4TO - Dave - KY - K2 - 4117   Very good sport - ran the net for at least
4 QNI :)  S 3-5
AH6RE - Curt - HI - KX1 - 464  Good signal Curt!  S 7
K7(?)S - Don't know for sure, I never heard him and could not get a fill
correctly from Dave.
W1EUY - Dave - MA - K2 - 744   QNI #5  Did not hear him.
K7TQ - Randy - ID - K2 - 213    S 2 sig here
K5(P)U - Mike - TX - K2 - (2602)   (?)  But got a SN of 2281.  Something
is not right here!

A less than stellar performance this evening but there were quite a few
folks trying.  The second time Dave called I heard a number of folks
calling at once.  That is heartening.  On another note; I am thinking
about moving each net up by at least 30 minutes or maybe even an hour to
take advantage of the propagation conditions at that time.  Each of the
last four or five weeks have netted us close to the same circumstances.
Folks simply go away during the net.  I will look at the contest calendar
to see what we are up against.  Then ask for a vote on whether 30 minutes
or 60 minutes earlier would be OK.

Any comments on a time change for a month or so while the sun comes back?

As ever if there are any errors (more likely this week) please send me
corrections and I'll post them and fix my logs.

Thank you all for your support,
    73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS  (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
