Good Evening,
The twenty meter net was challenging due to weak signals and QSB. Forty meters was challenging in another way with heavy QRN covering some signals pretty well. However we persevered and dug as many stations as possible out of the muck and mire. Weather reports, except for those of us out west were cool. Just wait folks this heat wave may just flow in your direction. My forecast is for 90 degrees or better until next Saturday when my forecast ends. 96 degrees? Up here? Fire danger is going to skyrocket! Already I am seeing fire crews driving the roads watching the valleys with binoculars. There used to be a fire lookout tower on the top of this mountain but it was demolished in the mid 70s. Too bad, it would be nice to have a neighbor each summer. Many of the flowers which were blooming last week are now drooping. Turk's cap lilies especially. If they are in the shade they are OK but when they face the sun they are wilting. The hummingbirds are almost all gone. The feeder has not needed to be filled in three days where it was needing a refill each day. Now that nesting is done they are probably seeking somewhere cooler to reside. Sounds like a good idea. When the heat reaches this altitude I will hike down to a nearby pond and read near it in the shade. That should be cooler than sitting in the house or roasting in the woods while I split wood. Luckily the wood dries very well in this weather; that is why I cut it so early. Now I am prepared for the first few months of heating season with very dry wood. By the way, on twenty meters I was barely able to copy N0SS. I asked if he wanted to call the net but had no way of hearing his reply. Conditions were just not good. I received a note between nets telling me I was not heard in the Southeast but propagation into Europe was great. One never can tell about propagation ;) Until next week stay cool and stay well, 73, Kevin.
