Good Evening,
I must apologize. Friday I called in sick for work and slept until Saturday afternoon. I've not been that ill in quite a while. Today I was still feeling some fever while running the first net. Nothing like a little internal QRM to make CW copy difficult ;) But, with the help of Tom, we got through the net. I drank a lot of water and cranberry juice between the nets but still would rather have been sleeping! If you thought I sounded dingier than usual you were correct. When I started looking for a frequency on 20 meters I heard an SM5 calling CQ on 14050. That is why I was up a bit when I ran the net. With that kind of propagation it was no surprise when Tom called for a few minutes and only received a few replies. His signal was most likely not hitting earth anywhere on North America. The strongest signal I heard was KL7CW with his mighty KX1 from Palmer, Alaska. Even W6ZH in Southern California was not as strong. I think there is some sort of duct between my mountain and Alaska. On forty meters there was a little QRN from Midwestern storms but the QSB had gotten stronger too. I know there were a few stations I just could not drag above the low, but present, background noise. Sorry. We did have a special station check into our first net: K6KPH. Tom had the honor of working them. Something tickled my memory so I looked them up and found they use the original maritime radio equipment. Thus a bit of history checked in this afternoon on ECN from Bolinas, CA.
