Howdy Folks,
After getting up at dawn to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and less hungry insect life I cut and collected a bunch of wood for the coming winter. Then back inside for water and breakfast. Rested a while and got on the air for about four hours during the Flight of the Bumblebees. ONe of my early contacts was none other than Mr. N6KR. Wayne actually does get on the air with his little rig :) It was fun to hear him and his 2 watts. This contest was very enjoyable. I was surprised at how many folks I knew and those who greeted me by name. I may just try one of the Spartan Sprints to practice a bit more. One day I will just may submit a log for one of these ;) Until then I'll just have fun with it. After the FOBB I got a bit more work done and slowed down. Ms. P had to laugh at me because she thinks I may just turn into a 'contester'. Oh good grief, what is happening to me? Got ready for the 20 meter net and knew it was going to be fun since the bands were open from Florida, Virginia, and points north. I had worked Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia but my strongest contact was from near Anchorage, Alaska. Then toward the end of the fourth hour Florida was booming in. Tom was back from his sojourn in Hawaii so was able to call around a bit for me. This is his 100th check in to the Elecraft Net. Way to go Tom!! It is always nice to hear your hail sign at the start of the net. Comforting is more like it :) Hope the pizza was good. Then Paul, from Florida, checked in with his K2 newly healed from some mysterious malady. It sounded very good and his contest fist was still going strong. Luckily my brain was not completely fried so I copied fairly well. Not like toward the end of the contest where my mentor replied to my CQ and I asked for a repeat. How embarrassing :( After four hours my mind starts to go a bit off (or is that more off?) and I lose track of words and dyslexify characters. True contesters must work out or something to keep themselves fit for those marathon contests. Extreme sports anyone? However, I have rambled long enough. Tonight there was only one net; the one on 20 meters. For a few months I think we will stick with just the one on 20 meters and reinstate 40 when the season warrants it.
