Good Evening,
Another session of ECN is going into the logs. 20 meters was a little weak with QSB plagued contacts. 40 meters was also a bit weak but we had the addition of QRN to the signals. Made for more digging but with repeats I was able to work folks. Then along came Dale. For some reason he decided to run with some power (20-100 watts) because he thought I may not hear him. Hear him I did! As I scraped myself off the ceiling and landed back in my chair I asked for a repeat so I could copy more than the J. Wow, was he loud! There were some odd effects on his signal but I think they were from my abused eardrums becoming detached. Wayne, the AGC is simply not fast enough to deal with someone like Dale. Please go over to his house and turn down his power; permanently! We could short his antenna to ground, that may help too :) . During the second net the fireplace decided to throw out more heat. It got to 75 in short order. Where it had been 61 when I started the 20 meter net. My sweatshirt did not feel comfortable at the end of the second net. We are at that part of the year where the temperature can swing 20 to 30 degrees in a matter of an hour or so. Most of Oregon has sun except for the mouth of the Columbia River. Roger knows what I mean because he lives in Washington where the sun NEVER shines. However, folks seem to like it there ;) On to the lists before someone shoots me => On 14050.50 kHz at 2300z: WB3AAL - Ron - PA - K2 - 1392 W0RSR - Mike - CO - K2 - 5767 QNI #25!!! If you did not get recognized I will try my best to catch you in two weeks. Yes, two weeks. Field day is coming next week and there is no way to try to squeeze a net into that chaos. Hopefully I will be the cause of a little of that. I will be working for a few hours away from home. I will take my trusty K2 along so folks can hear what a real radio sounds like. They have been spending their time with a lowly Kenwood which would pain my ears. The Kenwood owner has been swayed however. At Seapac he looked at the K3 lustfully. Looks like he may join the group of folks waiting for shipment of these new rigs. I will wait until the initial rush has ended but not until the reviews start hitting the magazines. Because by then it will be too late. Hopefully Eric will have the inventory well stocked when that happens! Otherwise we may not see the dynamic duo for years to come ;) They and their elves will be madly building K3s for the madding crowd. I wish you all a happy Father's day and very good luck in next week's pandemonium. I will be working from a station only a few miles from here for part of the day. When my shift is done I'll come back with my rig and paddles in tow so I can work under my own call from a tent overlooking their canyon site. I am pretty sure my 1500 foot elevation gain will make a difference. Depends upon their antenna meister how well they (we) do from the bottom of a canyon. See you all in two weeks, 73, Kevin.
