Elecraft CW Net Report for June 3rd & 4th, 2007

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
Two very good nets this evening.  Twenty meters was less noisy than
forty but that is to be expected with the seasonal changes.  A few new
folks checked in on forty.  Thank you and welcome to the net!  I know we
missed a few stations who were beneath the noise on both nets.  For that I
am sorry.  Hopefully next week will bring better propagation allowing us
to greet you.
The weather reports from across the land were heartening.  Looks like
the chills of winter are finally out of our bones.  During the second net
it was trying to reach 80 degrees F at my operating position.  Just enough
sweat to make my arm stick to the table but not enough to allow it to
slide.  That adds staccato to my sending :(  I may need a towel under my
arm soon.  But, the ten day outlook shows showers and cool are in my
future.  Ah, Oregon weather!  On the way to Seaside yesterday we got close
to the coast before the fog dimmed the sky.  On the way home it was even
thicker but before we reached the crest of the Coast Range we broke
through into sunshine which held over the Willamette Valley.

As ever, if there are any adjustments necessary to the above lists
please email me the corrections or fills.  Another week awaits us.
Propagation can only get better barring the seasonal variations we must
endure.  I read an article in Sky & Telescope last week about solar
predictions.  How very odd, there were two predictions cited; one was for
the strongest solar cycle on record while the other stated this would be
amoung the weakest ever.  The only way we will know which prediction is
correct is to keep getting on the air and testing conditions.  Much like
predicting Oregon weather :)  I'll take my weather rock any day of the
week over what the local weather folks have to say.  I have heard a new
twist though: tie the weather rock to a tree so you can tell wind speed
and direction.  However, that being stated I would have to have replaced
last year's rock with a new one since the tree may not remain on my
property let alone the rock!!!  But, as they say, the only thing constant
is change.  May you live in interesting times said one fortune cookie :)
Take care all and I will see you next week,
       73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
