Elecraft CW Net Report for March 12th and 13th, 2006

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
The bands were not great but they were not bad either.  40 meters
finally succumbed to QRN but I did manage a few check ins across the
continent.  Jay's KX1 out of Colorado has a very strong signal.  He was
blasing in on 20 meters at 599.  Wonder what he feeds that thing?  But he
did mention a painful word on 20 m, taxes.  This year I not only get to do
my own I get to do Pat's as well.  I will learn more forms and schedules I
am sure.  She was not a simple woman.  Neither are her taxes!  I may just
break down and go to a professional to see how to do them.
K4BEH, Pat is on the home stretch of his K2.  Hopefully he will check
in from Georgia with a brand new rig next week.  Good luck on the build!
I have been using my soldering iron lately but it is mostly for my robots
than for radios.  There is another rig on the bench though.  It is small,
light, QRP, and CW only.  Should be fun for the QRP to the field contest
in April.  We may set up within the city limits of Portland in one of
their parks to try this one.
EQP was fun but I only participated for a few hours.  I had to dig my
truck out which cut into my radio time.  I did try 80 meters at midnight
and again at 3 AM but there were no takers to my CQs.  The band was very,
very quiet later on.  I did try 15 meters yesterday but did not get up
early enough to try it this morning.  My last contact was at 0709z from
Ruidoso, NM.  That was K5OI running a K2 - #63.  When I get some time I'll
work on my log sheet and see how I did.  It was fun to work Wayne twice
and meet a few ECN regulars too.  Maybe next year I'll get serious.  I was
running a string of them on 40 meters when I broke off for dinner.  I
guess my priorities are just skewed ;)  Dinner was very good though.  I
think am re-learning how to cook for myself.
