Elecraft CW Net Report for March 19th and 20th, 2006

Kevin Rock
Whew!  40 meters was tough this evening and I am bushed.  It started by
trying to find an open spot amoungst all the RTTY stations.  I wound up on
7044.23 kHz.  Unfortunately this was also the spot where at the Flying
Pigs preferred to wallow.  I was getting blasted by them during the whole
hour.  That made copying you all very difficult.  I am not sure why
though.  They were supposed to be QRP but sounded very loud.  After the
forty meter net was done I was suddenly very tired.  This is unsurprising
to me since I had split, carried, and stacked quite a bit of wood both
yesterday and today.  I will sleep well tonight if the aches and pains
don't awaken me.  I thought of taking an aspirin or two before dinner but
did not know whether that would help my hands in time for the second net.
Must be getting old :)

However, twenty meters was fun.  There are a few spots in the US which
seem preferred by my antenna.  My first hop on twenty must land somewhere
between Fargo, North Dakota and Saint Paul, Minnesota since I hear W0CZ
and N0BK very well.  IA, OK, TX, and MO are about the same distance.  I do
catch CO and then KY, IN, and GA easily.  K6DGW had to be relayed through
Missouri but I did hear Fred.  He sounded like he was in Europe and I was
working him across the pole.  I thought that was very odd until I looked
on Solar Weather.  We are currently in a solar wind stream causing a few
auroras as far south as Wisconsin.  Even Tom was sounding a bit out of the
ordinary this evening.

Four new folks checked in this evening from Texas, British Columbia,
Indiana, and Missouri.  Welcome!  I was able to get two of them to provide
information but the band did not allow me to get this from the other two.
Maybe next time.

As ever, if there are any errors please email me with the proper
information and I will fix it.

Until next week,
    73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
