Wheew! What a lot of folks. More than once I was met with an
impenetrable wall of sound. I got the first character of the quickest off the mark and then caught the folks who sent again. Between the two nets we did pretty good. In fact we set a new record of 38 total! Not too bad considering the sun has not been too active lately. Good thing I don't use those propagation prediction programs to tell me when to get on the air ;) I started slowly due to splitting wood for an hour or so before the net. I also had three bandaids which were not helping me feel the paddles one bit. When I passed the net to Tom I took them off but my thumb and forefinger started bleeding again. Working outside in the cold has never been my hands' favorite activity. I think they are trying to tell me something. However, after dinner I felt better and they stopped bugging me so much. The second net was also well attended. QSB was present as well as QRM and a bit of QRN. Nothing major. Unfortunately we did lose NX8S before we could get more than a name and a state. Michigan is in one of my dead zones and Tom could not hear Ted very well either. At first I could copy a letter here and there but at the end I could barely tell Ted was there. Sorry, maybe next week will be better. On to the lists. On 14050 kHz at 2257z: N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008 W1TF - Ty - GA - K1 - 1423 With a new antenna ;) Works well Ty! My life is ever more hectic but I hope to find some time this week to get everything up to date. Maybe when the end of the heating season rolls around I will get some more time. I doubt it; I will most likely be working on the house, the greenhouse, and on some antenna projects. A few of the locals are going to drag me out on a few QRP camping/hiking trips too. Then there is Field Day and SeaPac Hamfest. Though I may be able to squeeze in a few moments if I forget about sleeping :) Thank you for your support. It is most pleasureable to work so many folks in such a short time. Keeps me on my toes so to speak. Hopefully some of those folks we tested yesterday at the VE session will get on the air and work with their new code skills. I hope they use HF early and often so they find out how much fun we are having. I am sure I told them but it does not really sink in until you've done it yourself. Until next week, 73, Kevin.
