Well that was fun! I just got done with ECN/40 and walked to the front
door. I opened it only to find two deer looking back at me. So I closed the door and let them eat the lawn. Less mowing that way :) I also just read a note from Dale, K6PJV, telling me the missing word in our last contact. He had turned the power knob to zero and worked me at 100 mW. I still gave him a 559 until the QSB ate the 'ZERO'. Not bad for such little power. I know others use meager antennas with little power to test me but the true test was getting through that QRN. On 20 meters the QSB was very deep but on 40 it was the storms causing problems. I know I lost some on both nets but I am glad you all tried. Next week will be different. I can't say if it will be better or worse; only different. Another critter is causing me grief. There is a vole in the duct work that sounds like she weighs about a ton. I cannot imagine how she makes so much noise unless one of the hangers is broken and the pipe is banging something else. If Sam were not retired she would make him a tasty morsel. I've seen her scoot across the living room floor but he just looks at her. Time to set out my trapline. Wonder what vole skins are going for this season? Or I could have her stuffed and mounted. I made some new name sheets for the desk and found a few duplicates in my date/name grid. I finally have the roster up to date too. Now to try and keep it that way. If Pat only knew how long it has been since I've logged anything in my logbooks she'd throw a fit! I was about nine months behind when she passed away and I've not added anything since. It will take me weeks to get that chore done because the pile of paperwork is about three feet deep! Hopefully next winter will allow me many hours snowed in with a large pile of wood. If the phones go out I'll have no excuse not to spend my time reading and filling in my logbooks. Well, I could get on the air I suppose since the Trojan batteries will last for quite some time if I don't run full power :) At 100 mW they could last almost forever! Until next week 73, Kevin.
