Elecraft CW Net Report for May 4th & 5th, 2008

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
Wow, forty meters got very loud toward the end.  QRN was strong from the minute I tuned up.  QSB was also the order of the evening.  S2 to S9 jumps at times.  At the very end of the net I know I got WB5BKL and ND0V but think I mentioned N0BK by mistake.  The BK was probably WB5BKL.  However, it was getting rather competitive trying to hold the frequency!  I went outside afterward to look at some trillium to relax.  The trees are alive with a buzzing sound.  The nearby marsh has a lot of croaking too.  Spring is here; I know because the biting flies had their way with me!  Luckily they do not last long.  One time Pat came in from cutting wood with both eyes almost swollen shut.  I put her to bed and made an ice pack.  The swelling took a few days to go down and over a week to go away entirely.  They don't seem to like me as much as they did her.  Guess it's a matter of taste :)
I did see a sunspot of the new cycle mentioned on www.spaceweather.com  Looks like it really is getting started.  Last spot I saw mentioned was in the other hemisphere and of the opposite polarity.  Thus it was from the previous cycle.  I also saw a 10-10 contest.  An email was sent to me mentioning the contest so I scanned 10 meters in a futile attempt to hear something.  No luck.  I did get a chance to work a few stations yesterday in 7QP.  I put in a little over an hour on 40, and 80 meters after dark.  I was having far too much fun during the day splitting,  stacking wood, and acting as a blood donor to quit.  I will be warm next winter.

Hopefully I got everything correct.  After K6PJV onward I am not sure of check ins.  I do know I heard WB5BKL and ND0V but did not copy much of what you said because of heavy QRM.  Funny thing is the QRM mentioned they were running a K2 at 100 watts from Tucson, Arizona.  At least they were using an Elecraft rig to QRM ECN :)  Please write me with any corrections or additions.
Thank you for your continuing participation.
      Until next week stay well,
         73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS  (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
