Elecraft CW Net Report for November 17th, 2008

Good Evening,
   The twenty meter net had some QSB but the forty meter net had QRN, QSB, and it moved rapidly.  As you can see by the lists the locals were the only ones I heard except for K4BEH who disappeared into the darkness only moments after he was heard.  Kent, K9ZTV, was not strong on either net but his distinctive fist is easy to copy.  K6PJV, who later admitted some antenna work, was great on both bands rivalling his neighbor Fred, K6DGW.  Way to go Dale!  The other Dale, WC7S, professed to be running QRP but with his antenna ranch it is hard to tell!  I read a note between nets from W0CZ, Ken, in North Dakota who mentioned fine tuning his beam setting so he could work me.  Thanks Ken!  
   Once again Ken has the low temperature award beating out Rick, KL7CW, in Alaska.  I remember watching the weather maps as a kid and finding our temperature in Wisconsin was lower than that in Alaska too.  Must have something to do with the great land mass causing Siberian conditions in the middle of the continent.  But Rick does not live all that far from the ocean which tempers the weather somewhat.  Here I am enjoying very warm weather which is great for gathering the last few cords of wood for winter.  I just got a note from my sister asking how much wood I use a winter so I estimated from the size and shape of the shed.  Looks like four and a half cords would keep the house warm all year round.  My current nine cords will be enough for two years if the winter is not too severe.

   If there are any errors or omissions in the lists please email me with the corrections.  Thank you for all the years of fun.  It is very nice to meet you all each week.  It is interesting to hear how propagation changes with the times, the seasons, and the years.  Once again the sunspot number is not zero.  It was getting boring having it so low for so long.  Maybe now it is moving past minimum and gaining strength for the next maximum.  I am ready for the change!
