Elecraft CW Net Report for November 20th and 21st, 2005

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
Signal propagation was better tonight than it was last week.  Thanks to
Ken and Dick I was not skunked for the second net.  Ken had just arrived
home from his folks and Dick was out pig hunting.  Before the first net I
heard parts of Leigh's contact with Tom but not as well as I would have
liked.  Toward the end of the net signals were fading.  Even Tom's
normally strong signal was dropping off precipitously.  The seasonal
change is taking its toll.  However, this does not last more than a few
weeks.  The sun has also caused a few signal problems due to the D layer
being more absorptive than it has been recently.  A large sun spot has
caused the solar wind to pick up and cause a few aurora.  I saw a nice one
pictured on Astronomical Picture of the Day today.  It was near Bismarck,
North Dakota not too far from where my mother was born.
I am being called away to write some interview questions for Pat.  She
needs to ask some folks at Intel about their research.  Since I did my
thesis on adaptive array antennas and signal recognition I get to write
some of the questions ;)  Just to keep my hand in that is!  I better make
this short so I have the time to craft a few good questions about signal
arbitration and fractal antennas using MEMs technology to provide
ultrawide band coverage.  Seems like software defined radio has hit the
main stream these days.  Amateur radio does effect the way these guys
build their systems ;)  They think it is new stuff but I beg to differ.
TAPR has been doing this stuff for a while as have the folks in AMQRP.
Sigh, guess I need to teach a class or two to catch these engineers up
with the last ten years of amateur radio.

On 14050 kHz at 2400z:
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008
K0JEM - Joel - KS - K1 - 1400
VE3XL - Ric - ON - K1 - 968 ??   Same rig Ric??
K2HYD - Ray - VA - KX1 - 608   QNI #50!!   Very weak tonight Ray.
W1TF - Ty - GA - K1 - 1423
WA5ZNU - Leigh - CA - K2 - 3121   QNI #5
KL7CW - Rick - AK - KX1 - 798    Weaker than last week Rick.

On 7045 kHz at 0300z:
W0CZ - Ken - ND - K2 - 1031
W0NTA - Dick - CO - K2 - 3900 ???   Running QRP for the RFTB.

I better run before I turn into a pumpkin.  She keeps me fed so I had
better write some good questions for her ;)  If there are any errors or
fills please email me and I'll get on it when I can.

Thank you for the interest and support.  I will see you again next week.
    As ever,
Kevin.   KD5ONS  (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
