Elecraft CW Net Report for November 27th, 2006

Kevin Rock
Good Evening,
After the contest slowly dissolved into history ECN/20 began.  Signals
varied from weak to very strong.  There was a little QSB but not too bad.
Forty meters was a bit different with some very, very weak signals.  Tom
and I got most of those but may have missed one.  The CW speed varied all
over the place too :)  Tom checked a neighbor of his who must have been
running warp two!  But there was a point where I cranked up to 25 wpm to
get my fingers straightened out.  We do try to have fun; that is the main
purpose of the Elecraft CW Net.  What a hoot.
Looking at the two lists I see the signal landing zones are different
this week.  MD, PA, ID, and FL have not been normal lately.  I missed AK,
IN, and ON too.  Hmmm... very odd differences.  But the ionosphere got a
double dose this weekend.  Once from the sun and again from the CQWW CW
Contest.  Nothing like a good contest to get the bands warmed up for us.
I did hear an ....AL station on twenty meters so I may have missed
Ron.  He wrote me a note about hearing weak stations but did not think he
could make the net.  Well both Tom and I heard you and called you.
Maryland was good copy but Eastern Pennsylvania was very weak.  How odd.
The signal reports I was receiving were weaker than those I was handing
out though.  One way propagation is not unheard of so maybe that's what
happened this week.  I did not hear Rick with his booming KX1 so maybe
that is what happened to the west.

There was another snow storm today and a neighbor who lives a few
hundred feet higher than I do reported six inches and more coming.  I only
have about an inch because it cannot decide to either snow or rain so it
alternates.  This does keep the accumulation down and the chill factor
up.  When it is snowing heavily I find it warmer than our during normal
Oregon rain.  But the fir trees seem to like it so I guess all is right
with the world.  How could you all build your houses if it weren't for
Oregon Doug fir?  Well, I guess you could get it from Washington or maybe
even British Columbia but their's is just not the same ;)
If there are any errors in the above lists (for shame) please email me
and I will correct them.

Until next week stay warm and stay well,
    73,
Kevin.  KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
