Good Evening,
Forty meters was noisy but some of the sounds were rather odd. I was not sure what I was hearing. Kind of like the inside of an engine room of a ship. Thrumming sounds all around. The static hiss was high but not as bad as I have heard. There was a little QSB on both bands but mostly the propagation was good. QRN was higher than normal on 20 meters but the usual amount on 40 m. Right now it is pretty chilly here. I am expecting a frost soon but normally I see it in the valley long before it gets that cold up here. As I drove into town today I noticed some dead ferns at about 800 feet but up here they are still green and happy. It may depend on the weather system. One side of the mountain only gets Tualatin Valley weather while I usually get Pacific Coast weather. There have been times when I could see right where they meet a few feet south of my property. One side of the road would be coastal weather and the other would be Tualatin Valley weather. By the way: the Tualatin flows into the Willamette to the south and then the Willamette flows north into the Columbia which flows west into the ocean. The other side of the property drains into the Nehalem River which flows into the Columbia River at the estuary west of Astoria. I may have missed one or two but I was near ESP copy when I grabbed K2HYD on 20 meters. At one point I thought I was inventing CW out of static! Kind of liking copying the wind chimes after a long contest :) If there are any errors please send the corrections to me. Hopefully your fall colors are as intense as they have been here. Since I have lived here (1996) this is the most color I have seen. It is also lasting quite a long time too. It reminds me of home but there are a limited number of deciduous species here compared to where I grew up. Now to keep preparing for the long and wet winter. Until next week stay well, 73, Kevin.
