Good Evening,
We had fun this evening. A few week signals strained my hearing but I think I finally got them all. Ray, K2HYD, had to be the weakest station but I finally got him when the QSB came up. Ric got his K1 back on the air so he may be sleepy at work tomorrow. I appreciate your efforts. Ken stated there may be some snow in North Dakota around mid-week. Hopefully all are prepared so you can enjoy it. I know I would have fun up there. My skis look so forlorn, awaiting wax, and snow. Maybe my F250 will be nice to me and take me on a trip to where I can go XC skiing. My nephew has been working me to the point where I may just be able to ski again! The drywall is giving me the upper body strength the where double poling down the trail will be almost easy. I need to dust off my roller blades to get my wind back. Propagation was mostly steady on 20 meters but on 40 there was QSB for me and QRN for folks in the middle of the continent. The Southeast is unrepresented this week. Normally I have a duct into Georgia. I never can tell what is going to happen from week to week. The predictions say one thing or another but empirical studies are the only way to test propagation. During the first net my hands were pretty stiff. So during dinner I kept squeezing a rubber ball to get rid of some of the tension. This next week will be even rougher on them since I'll be taping, mudding, and then sanding the drywall. The computers will get covered but I may just break them down and put them into the spare bedroom to protect them from the fines. QNI #5! KT5E - Jay - CO - K2 - 5037 N0BK - Bruce - MN - K2 - 3646 Thank you all for your participation. I hope I got everyone who was trying to check in. There was a C2Z station toward the end but I think he was in search of someone else. It sounds like the East is enjoying warm weather, the Middle West is preparing for frost and snow, while I sit inside with the rains falling steadily. The mushroom crop is just starting. I took my nephew for a short hike yesterday to see if we could find the local stream. We found the stream bed and a friendly tree frog but no running water. On the way back up the slope we found evidence of deer and elk and quite a few small mushrooms getting started. This rain will make them explode with growth. If a sunny, warm day comes along I'll see the local mushroom pickers all over these mountains. Chanterelles, both white and yellow, are the most commonly harvested though there are quite a few other edible species in the area. I've been advised to use my soldering station sponge as a means of collecting drips from my roof. Hopefully my sponge is large enough to capture all of that water. While growing up in Wisconsin we would put Prince Albert cans, basins, and whatever other containers we could find under the leaks in the cheese factories metal roof. Maybe Weller has come up with a more absorptive sponge I can buy for my station ;) I will be travelling into town to buy a roll of bituminous membrane to seal around the worst offenders in my roof. Then I can move the soldering station to a more useful location! Until next week stay well, 73, Kevin.
