Elecraft HF amplifier?

Conway Yee
Is there a chance that a Elecraft will develop a HF amplifier?  Is there
another kit manufacturer with such a beast?  It would be nice to have a
kit station from Alpha to Omega.

Elecraft has developed and shown QRO amplifiers in the past.  Here is
a comment from Eric that he posted 10/31/07 about the delay getting
the amps into production:

>>"Actually, the main reason for delay on the KPA800/1500 Amps was the K3. Almost 12 months ago we decided that we could not bring both the amplifiers and the K3 to market at the same time. It would be just too much of a strain on the company, both fiscally and engineering resource wise. We made the business decision to delay the amps in favor of the K3. (A relatively easy one when you look at the total revenue/profit difference between the two.)"

... that was the response two years ago.

For now, I can only say that we're deeply interested in this topic.

Hi Wayne

Whatever amplifier comes from the Elecraft stable, a useful accessory would be a hybrid combiner to combine 2 or 4 Elecraft amplifiers. This appears to be a favored option  for military HF users.

There will also be several SDR transmitters released very shortly by various people onto the market. All these SDR transmitters will be low power  and less than  1 watt. A low drive option of either 100-300mw, 10 watts, 100 watts or 200 watts maybe with an attenuator input would be nice option.

It would also be nice to be able to reduce TX power in 3db steps using  an attenuator. This option  could also be used by MARS operators who use Rockwell HF80 or Harris 100 to 300 MW TX drivers especially if low drive is an option.

If the stock K3 at 10 watts could be biased for class A it would make a very good driver for  the above  amplifier.  Can the K3's 10 watt PA handle class A bias? 2 or 3 watts of Class A power would be a nice menu  option.
