Hi
Just to report that the 7 K2/100s which we used in Mali as TZ5A in CQWW CW this year worked flawlessly. So many thanks to Eric and the gang at Elecraft. This was a heavy weight test for the K2 and they more than met the task. Each of the 7 stations used a K2/100, Alpha amp, computer networked in CT and an array of antennas including , monobanders for HF/40, verticals aon 80/160 with a C3 on the mult station. RXin ants were a 580' Beverage and a K9AY loop K2s were all carried in with no problems. 73 and thanks again Bob G3PJT/TZ5A and the rest of the Voodoo Contest Group -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I also copied TZ5A in KY with very strong signals and very
consistent...perhaps an honest 559 or better. It seemed that the EU stations had the stronger signals. I didn't give much of an effort to work you, but called several times. I usually don't have trouble breaking pileups. I have a full size, elevated quarterwave groundplane on 160. This time, however, I didn't get through, probably due to lack of effort on my part. I wasn't working the contest and didn't really care. 73, Dave, K4TO S55M wrote: >Hello Voodoo Contest Group! > >Almost killed myself calling TZ5A for 1 hour and half on 160m on sunday >night (and on sathurday night also spent abt 1 hour but no contact)- at 9A1P >contest team with K2-3204 and 1500W amp. >You were calling CQ in face to me and other 20 EU stn calling u with Your >sigs 559-579 on beverage ant to south. >Maybe the qrn on 160 was high??? > > >73's >S55M (9A8WW)-Adi >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Bob G3PJT" <[hidden email]> >To: <[hidden email]> >Cc: "Roger G3SXW" <[hidden email]> >Sent: Monday, December 05, 2005 10:45 AM >Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft K2/100 at TZ5A > > > > >>Hi >> >>Just to report that the 7 K2/100s which we used in Mali as TZ5A in CQWW >>CW this year worked flawlessly. >> >>So many thanks to Eric and the gang at Elecraft. >> >>This was a heavy weight test for the K2 and they more than met the task. >>Each of the 7 stations used a K2/100, Alpha amp, computer networked in >>CT and an array of antennas including , monobanders for HF/40, verticals >>aon 80/160 with a C3 on the mult station. Dan, et. al.,
I have a dialup connection and photos and other large attachmets don't work well. The 160 antenna has been up since 1990. It is constructed of Rohn 45 tower, guyed at three levels with Phillystran. There is a Rohn insulated section inserted with the insulator at 28 feet above ground. This is the feed point. The tower part is 140 feet tall with an additional section of 4 inch aluminum irrigation pipe out the top for tuning. There are eight full sized quarterwave radials at the 28 foot level, sloping down to ten feet above ground at the ends. The antenna matches perfectly at resonance. I never run more than 100 watts on the hf bands. There is no need for high power with this antenna. My QTH is located on a ridge which is the highest point in the county and is at least 300 feet above average terrain for 20 miles in every direction. I routinely work EU through the "East Coast Curtain" with 100 watts and this antenna. I have no doubt that I could have worked the TZ5A station with a little more persistence. I am blessed to be able to live on 23 acres in the country and be able to have good antennas. Thanks for your interest. 73 and Merry Christmas, Dave, K4TO Dan Barker wrote: >We must see pictures! > >Dan / WG4S / K2 #2456 > ><snip> >I have a full size, elevated quarterwave groundplane on 160. ></snip> > > > Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
