I have the setup you describe. KPA100 and tuner in the separate
enclosure and a K2 with the battery and the low power tuner. I power
both with an Astron RS20 with the modification for charging a
battery, RS20BB if you buy it that way.
I checked to see what would happen by turning off power to the power
supply while transmitting. The K2 goes to low power but the low power
tuner may need to be tuned.
I also have a sailboat and during the winter I keep the 90ah deep
cycle battery charged with the Astron. In fact when I first got the
KPA100 setup I used the battery as power until I found the Astron on
ebay.
The boat battery will keep the rig up for several hours. I power my
Laptop with the linear supply I used for the K2 before the KPA100.
This eliminates switching noise. The rig and the computer have
opposite polarity grounded so I need the separate supply. The
computer battery will keep the laptop running for more than two hours
on one battery.
