Elecraft [K2] : Power supply considerations.

Behiels JeanPierre
Hi K2 members;

I am building on a K2(100W) rig.

I near future I will take the rig in use on holidays.

I look for some compact power supply suggestions witch I can take easily in my luggage during holiday for this purpose.

Has somebody any suggestions around, or some more useful information where I could obtain a available one for K2 100W use ?

I think weight and dimensions are most important ?

Regards Jean ON4AEF.

Jean Pierre -

I have a K2 plus the KPA-100 and KAT-100 in a separate EC2 case.

I have tried 2 different MFJ power supplies, and both work well with the
K2 100-watt combination.   The MFJ 4115 is small and light weight (1.5
lbs, about 0.7 Kg), rated at 15 amperes continuous, 17 amperes surge.
It is just big enough to run the rig + amplifier. Here is a link:

If you want a power supply with a little extra reserve capacity, then
the MFJ 4125, rated at 22 amperes continuous, 25 amperes surge,  may be
the one you want,.  It is of  course somewhat larger and heavier (2.9
lbs, 1.35 Kg).  Here is a link to the 4125.

Both are reasonably RF quiet, with few if any spurious signals,
certainly none that would disrupt a QSO.

The 4115 operates from 115 volts AC only (actually 85 to about 135
volts), the 4125 accepts either 115 or 220 volts AC (with similar wide
tolerances).   If small size and minimum weight are the primary
requirements, the 4115 is the best choice. If current limiting is ever a
problem, simply reducing the transmitter power output to 80  or 90 watts
will fix the problem, and the difference in signal at the receiving end
will be virtually undetectable.  So far, I have never had a problem in
this area.

I use this one with my K3. It has served me very well as a traveling power
supply.

Re: Elecraft [K2] : Power supply considerations.

EricJ-2
+1 on the Powerwerx 30 amp supply. Very nicely built unit, and very
small. Great company to deal with also. I buy lots of power pole items
from them. No RFI that I can detect. I run my entire station on it
(except for rotator).
