In case anyone was wondering: We are definitely planning to ship a new
high-power autotuner next year. It will be an ideal companion tuner for the KPA500 and other amplifiers in the 500-600 W class (full rating on 160-6 m). It will be offered in both a desktop model (P3 size) and a remote model for use at the antenna. Both will feature latching relays to minimize operating current. It will support various industry-standard control protocols. 73, Wayne & Eric ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Way to go Wayne.
Now that’s what I call service. Listening to your customers requests too (remote model). GREAT! My prayers for an Elecraft remote tuner may soon be answered, although I don't need a 500 watt version. 73, Henry - K4TMC K2/100 and K3/100 -----Original Message----- From: Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] reflector <[hidden email]> Sent: Wed, Jun 16, 2010 6:50 pm Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft KAT500 (was "Auto Tuner") In case anyone was wondering: We are definitely planning to ship a new high-power autotuner next year. There is less and less reason to ever buy anything other then an Elecraft product -- fast becoming the one stop shopping mall of ham radio gear.

Wayne,
In conjunction with the external tuner, has any thought been given to allow those of us who opt to not buy the internal tuner to use the "Antenna 2" by way of some sort of kit to open it up?? Is that even a possibility?? I nearly always run an amp of some sort for less stress on the basic rig and low power out on amp so it isn't stressed either. For that reason, and the use of ladder line antennas here, I didn't get the internal tuner, but sure would like to be able to access that extra antenna output. I am continually amazed at how well you guys read the pulse of the group and respond to our needs. You could easily become a "one stop shop" for me. Great news and I would second Don, WB5HAK, suggestion of an internal antenna switch for the K# without the tuner.
Any guidance on price levels, particularly for the external tuner? Pre-order list? Cheers, Julius

See http://fermi.la.asu.edu/w9cf/articles/balun.pdf by one of our intrepid
qrp foxes (W9CF) for an excellent technical discussion of balun placement and requirements. See http://audiosystemsgroup.com/RFI-Ham.pdf (K9YC's paper) which includes excellent recipes for baluns. A balun of proper design, dimensions and impedance on the output of a tuner will allow for balanced antenna operation. 73 jim ab3cv ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Now that the desktop KAT500 is a near-term reality, is there any projected timeline on the remote version? (I haven't seen any discussion of the remote version for some time.) Any more details about configuration, etc? Many thanks.
