Elecraft SSB report (3/13/11)

Phil Shepard
Here is the report from last Sunday's SSB net.  Thanks to Ken, KO5Y, for
being the net control station.  This week, if we have more interference, can
those of you with rotatable antennas please try to get a bearing on the
interfering signal.

Thank you.

73,

Phil, NS7P

The bad actor is Karol Madera, VK7KFM, in British, Columbia. He is
notorious for his antics, usually in the 14.272-14.275, and at other
times on 14.313. Search for his callsign for the sordid details.

It may be advisable to find another frequency for the net because
this guy loves confrontation in all it's forms and Canadian rules
enforcement is non-existent.

I'm certain you meant VE7KFM, who indeed has a long and sordid history
on the air.  There are some other equally degenerate individuals on the
U.S. side of the border (seemingly equally immune to enforcement) who
sometimes pirate his callsign to generate their own malicious
interference, though, so it's pretty difficult to reliably attribute
anything to anyone.

Thanks for catching my typing error Dave.

(I don't see an entry for a VK7KFM, so I'm thankful that no personal
apology is needed.)

Guys, he's a fruitcake.  There are two little known laws in physics:  1)
Conservation of Fruitcake:  All the fruitcake in the universe was
created at the Big Bang.  You can neither create nor destroy it, it just
moves from home to home.  2)  Applied to individuals, it is like
entropy, and they just persist and sometimes increase.

I don't check into the net, SSB is a struggle for me, but I'd just move
and be done with him.

In ECOM we have alternate frequencies for just such occurrences.  If the
offender does not respond to a polite query to cease and desist we move to
freq A.  That normally rids us of the problem.

I always though that  the same principle applied to IRCs.  Hardly anyone buys them or redeems them for stamps--they just keep bouncing from ham to ham, although some times they are exchanged for currency.

In reply to this post by David Gilbert
After a move into a new house I can't seem to locate my K144XV serial cable.
Does anyone have the pin out for the DP9 to stereo plug on the K144XV ?

Re: K144XV serial cable pinout.

David Pratt
Jeff -

Tip    - Pin 3  (Green)
Ring   - Pin 2  (Red)
Sleeve - Pin 5  (Black)

Pins 4 & 8 are linked together in the DP9 connector.

It is a 6 foot, 3-way screened cable, the screen being connected to the
sleeve at the stereo plug end.

I hope that helps.
