I know I'm preaching to the choir here but once again Elecraft has proven
they have the best customer support in the world! After a recent portable operation with my K2 and KPA100/KAT100 in an EC2 I returned to find that the K2 would no longer control the amp and tuner. A quick swap of the QRO and QRP lids isolated the problem to the KIO2 in the K2. A check of the email archives suggested one of the subminiature RFCs was likely the problem. A quick check with the DMM showed that L1 on the AUX2 board was open. This is the 12V control line for remote connected devices. A quick email to Elecraft and Richard verified this was the cause of the problem. I sent back asking if this RFC was susceptible to failure due to high current when used with the remote KPA100. He wrote back and said yes and forwarded a copy of Lyle's (KK7P) article on remoting the KPA100 which specifically recommends replacing the subminiature RFC with a torroid wound on an FT23-43 core similar to L5 in the KIO2. I was all set to order one from Elecraft when Paul, Gary and Scott each sent emails telling me that they were sending me a couple of cores and some wire. Are these guys great or what? I had also suggested they consider changing the kit to replace the subminiature RFC on the AUX2 board with a torroid version and it sounds like they will be doing that soon. What other company provides such service. Outstanding! They truly are the best in the world for customer service. Unless Elecraft doesn't offer it, all gear in my shack will be Elecraft! 73, Mike WA3KYY K2 #2221 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Probably along with 5000 other happy customers. When I first built my K2 in 1999 my eyes and brain were fine, but now when building the Kio2, KPA100, Kat100, KDSP2 etc, etc, ...well I made a whole lot of mistakes and blew a lot of parts. I got to know the Elecraft technical staff very well ;o). I got to the point where whenever I blew a part or something didn't work, I would not worry in the least since I knew that when I called the next day they would set me straight and supply me with the proper replacement parts. Rest assured that anyone can build a K2 and not to worry about getting it to work. With this list, and Elecraft staff it’s a done deal. Steve, W2MY -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
