Elecraft annoyances.

Gil G.
Hello,

Why does Elecraft force me to go through the delicate operation of removing the PA transistors hardware to install a puny little connector for my ATU installation when that part should have been provided with the $740 kit!?
Same with my K1, which was missing parts for the 80m filter board. Are you guys that cheap? Man… I love those radios but you guys know how to aggravate people...

Gil.

I thought I would be annoyed doing that PA removal, but it was simpler than I thought.

Gil,

Recently Elecraft has been more generous, but back in the days that the
BOMs for those transceivers were created, every small part meant the
difference between success and failure for the company. Fortunately,
that is no longer the case, and the company is on firm footing
financially, but the time and effort to change the BOMs for those legacy
transceivers is not practical.

To remove the K2 heatsink without loosing the PA mounting hardware,
simply put a 3/4 inch square of electrical tape over the screwheads and
stick it to T4 and the surrounding board.  The heatsink can then be
removed and the PA mounting hardware will stay in place.  I do it on a
daily basis, and do not think it is a big deal.
