I just got home from the Stone Mountain Hamfest, outside Atlanta Georgia and
want to report Elecraft had an excellent display setup by Don, N4HH. When Don saw my Elecraft shirt he told me I was entitled to a great Southern delicacy, a Moon Pie and a bottle water, (well he got half right, any true Southern, including this converted Yankee, knows a Moon Pie goes with a Coke), but thanks Don. It is amazing how many people asked about my Elecraft shirt at the hamfest, I just told them I was another satisfied customer and it is a great rig. I just wanted the group to know the importance of wearing your Elecraft shirts, to hamfests. Who knows, maybe in New England you could get a lobster, Texas BBQ and California abalone, if you wear your Elecraft stuff. Well, it is just an idea. 72, Steve Ray K4JPN ex K1VKW EM82ep Warner Robins GA Elecraft K2 1422 & KPA-100 Heath Fan HW-101, HW-8 http://www.thewinstonator.com/k4jpn.htm _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Sorry, but Southerners know that a moon pie goes with a RC Cola.
Coke works, when the real thing is not available. 8-) I concur on the excellent display for Elecraft. 73 ya'll. I agree...Don had a really nice display and there seemed to be a lot of interest in it the times that I passed by during my stay there today. It was clear that he put a lot of work into it and it was a nice, professional display. I hope that it helped to generate some additional sales for the fine folks at Elecraft. And I also appreciated the free Moon Pie, but as a TRUE Southener, I feel that I must set the record straight. It has been my experience that a real Moon Pie (the ones made in Chattanooga, TN) were only designed to go with an RC Cola, not a Coke, hi hi. As a bit of history, we Columbusites have numerous connections with the cola world. RC Cola was started here in Columbus in 1905, and the originator of the Coca-Cola formula, Dr. John Pemberton, was a pharmacist here and is buried here in Linwood Cemetery. His home and apothecary shop are still located in our historic district. The city of Atlanta likes to conveniently overlook the fact that Pemberton first practiced here before moving to Atlanta in 1886, where Coca-Cola was first sold to the public. 73 de John, WB4GLJ Columbus, GA K2 #1057, K1 #1126, KX1 #309, plus accessories > I just got home from the Stone Mountain Hamfest, outside Atlanta Georgia and > want to report Elecraft had an excellent display setup by Don, N4HH. Even this transplanted Southerner knows that it's RC Cola that goes with a Moon Pie. Don was an excellent host and had put up an impressive booth. We chatted and remembered me from the N4N Field Day, where my K2/100 was the 80/15m CW station. (We did have some T5 reports on 80m, but discovered that was due to a malfunctioning power supply) Don treated me to the Moon Pie and bottled water. Thanks, Don. Don had a bunch of products there, but I was most impressed with this "science fair" project. He had two easels -- one with photographs of the Elecraft product line, the other with a pictorial description of adapting N1MM for use with his Elecraft Rig. Great job, Don! > I just wanted the group to know the importance of wearing your > Elecraft > shirts, to hamfests. And that is pronounced "arrra see cola" with great emphasis on the "arra". I was greatly surprised to find RC Cola on the store shelves out here in Silicon Valley recently. There's a Low Country (Ga, SC) variation in pronounciation---ARA-O-C Cola.
I saw Don this a.m. at the booth and was presented a bottle of faux white lightning with my Moon Pie which I promptly had for breakfast. I am still living. I suppose the really big shots get presented a can of red neck pork pate-in-a-tube ---Vienna (Vye-anna) sausage.... 73, Gil NN4CW _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
