The list server just rejected one of my postings because:
"Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Error: 554 SPAM-ID: B0008 - Your message looks like spam." I have no idea why my reply to another posting looked like spam, but there is no excuse for some brain-dead piece of software rejecting posts to a members-only list from someone who has been a member since Elecraft started, for any reason. Eric can easily excommunicate any spammers. I imagine that someone whose urgent plea for help with a building problem was rejected would be pretty frustrated with Elecraft if this happened. I dare say my comment is no great loss to the group, but perhaps there is some merit in the idea of setting up an alternative list, after all. As someone who reads the list online, the ability to post and reply from the list archives would be extremely useful, and would presumably be a way round this problem. Let's see if this one gets through... 73, -- Julian, G4ILO (RSGB, ARRL) G4ILO's Shack: http://www.tech-pro.net/g4ilo _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Apparently qth.net has some pretty strict filters set. I have had a few posts bounced on another list. Hi Julian,
I apologize for the inconvenience on this. Unfortunately this is a requirement for Internet email list servers these days. We get hit by literally hundreds of real SPAM messages daily and can not look at each one manually. If the list engine didn't catch them the list would be overwhelmed. We do limit postings to list members, but many SPAMs spoof the legitimate return addresses of our subscribers too! In any case, whenever anyone gets incorrectly rejected as SPAM by the list server, just email a copy to [hidden email] with a short note and we will post it for you. 73, Eric WA6HHQ Julian, G4ILO wrote: > The list server just rejected one of my postings because: > > "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Error: 554 SPAM-ID: B0008 - Your message > looks like spam." > > I have no idea why my reply to another posting looked like spam, but > there is no excuse for some brain-dead piece of software rejecting posts > to a members-only list from someone who has been a member since Elecraft > started, for any reason. Not to belabor the point but we should be happy that the list tells you your post is spammy so you have a chance to try again. I get over 1000 spam emails per day to my personal email addresses. My filters simply discard everything that looks spammy. There are too many to be polite.
