Wayne -- I would like to see an audio peaking filter for cw work...perhaps it could be an alternate function for the pitch control?? Also when will we be seeing the long promised solid state 160-6 meter 1500 watts 100% duty cycle Elecraft linear amp ?? :-) 73 de Greg-N4CC ---- Msg sent via CableONE.net MyMail - http://www.cableone.net ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I am also very interested in an audio peak filter for CW. I really found it extremely beneficial on my FT1000D. The RX EQ has potential in this area but it is turned off at narrow bandwidths.

Well I never found the FT1000D peak filter that great, decent yes,
all subjective of cource. I remember when I had a Drake 2B with 2BQ Q-mult, that was nice, you sure could peak signals up out of nowhere. But sure a peak filter could be nice to try. I have a Timewave DSP-59+ audio filter that I used with my old FT-101E.
It has switchable high and low pass cutoff frequencies or switchable band pass filters with bandwidths from 25 Hz up to 600 Hz. I've experimented with using it with the K3 output and mostly it doesn't improve copy; the exception is where I get a signal tuned in the 200 Hz K3 filter ( using 8 pole 250 Hz) filter and tune a signal that's barely copyable. If there's not too much QRN, I can improve the apparent S/N ratio and make the copy more pleasant but it really doesn't help the intelligibility of the signal. Using it seems much more trouble than it is worth. I rather doubt that adding an audio peaking filter to the K3 would really help much, if any. The DSP-59+ also has digital noise reduction that sounds better, often in a more pleasant manner as far as the background noise is concerned, than Elecraft's in some cases but likewise doesn't help enough to bother, but then I rarely use phone. I remember when I added a Heath Q-multiplier to my S40B and later to my HRO-50T. That was a good improvement, especially for the S40B, but then almost anything would have been.
