This story is a couple years old, and has probably already had a bazillion
comments on this list in its day, but I just found it and thought it was interesting. http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2005/May/15/biz/stories/01biz.htm There are even vague hints about the K3 in it. 73, Mike KW1ND (A K3 owner-in-waiting who doesn't feel the need to fill the list with childish rants about waiting times) _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Like most newspaper stories - not very accurate:
"In 1971, when Swartz became licensed, there were only about 25,000 so-called hams" Bob W6VY --- Mike B <[hidden email]> wrote: > This story is a couple years old, and has probably already had a > bazillion > comments on this list in its day, but I just found it and thought it > was > interesting. > > http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2005/May/15/biz/stories/01biz.htm > > There are even vague hints about the K3 in it. > > 73, > > Mike KW1ND _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. As I have sorted through the multiplicity of K3 related postings in
recent weeks (I was away from my computer one day and when I came back there were 157 new K3 postings in one 24 hour period)...I am beginning to wonder if there is life beyond the K3? Is there a "real" Elecraft list somewhere where one can go to for project advice and help? That is, I have heard more than I ever wanted to know about bagpipes, vapors rising off what a dog left behind, shipping dates, shipping methods, credit cards, advice on how to run a company, operating manuals vs. assembly manuals, giving up your place in line for someone that will appreciate the value of what the K3 will be, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc..... And that's just today. However, some of us are still building other Elecraft products and have posted build/alignment questions and more than one of us has had to repost because of no responses on the list to the questions raised. But, we can have 15 cutsey comments posted by everyone and their dog about dog vapors, bagpipes, etc. I must say, I did get one off-list response to my K2 question today and Andrew was helpful with one of the questions I posed...but didn't have anything to suggestions for the rest of the problem.... I had today off and was hoping to do the final alignments...but am stalled by the questions I have....and it's now been a totally wasted day. But, by golly, I know about vapors and bagpipes and shipping dates!!! Just wondering... Just as some folks don't choose to read about fox hunts, or winding things, or color codes, you could use a filter....you've already indicated which things you'd rather not read...so a filter would take care of that. You could use the filter to delete the offending mail, or move it to another folder for later review. 73 - k3hrn Thom,EIEIO Email, Internet, Electronic Information Officer www.baltimorehon.com/ Home of the Baltimore Lexicon www.tlchost.net/hosting/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Thank you for the quick and snappy reply. I've noticed you are always
quite good at that. But, if you had chosen to read beyond the surface, you would have noticed it was a request for people who have knowledge and experience to help with build questions, which is part of what this list purports to be for. You can keep trying to be funny all you want. But, it would also be nice if help were offered when requested. dk Quoting Thom LaCosta <[hidden email]>: > On Fri, 14 Sep 2007 [hidden email] wrote: > >> there is life beyond the K3? Ah....all the whining may have obscured it....things like 'Is there a "real" Elecraft list' and your list of complaints didn't seem like a specific request for help. > > You can keep trying to be funny all you want. Sometimes when I don't get an answer on a list, I ask the question again...you might try that and see if you can get some help. 73 - k3hrn Thom,EIEIO Email, Internet, Electronic Information Officer www.baltimorehon.com/ Home of the Baltimore Lexicon www.tlchost.net/hosting/ Web Hosting as low as 3.49/month _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. in 1971 210,000 would have been pretty close to actual number, in US.

Actually in the US in 1962 (the year I was licensed) there were
over 250,000 hams in the US. The callbook I saved to show my first call was the summer 1963 and it lists 258,000 hams.
