Elecraft's K1, K2, KX1 and planned obsolescence

Chris Wagner-8
This came up in the 1920s, when a group of light bulb makers formed a
cartell.
Their goal was to reduce the life span of its products. GM brought it to
cars,
coming up with new models...

There was an article on Eham, detailing certain issues with TS-2000s which
must have
been known to Kenwood. Oh, maybe Kenwood doesn't want its TS-2000s to  l a
s t?
What about Icom with the known design flaw of the IC-7000? Or Yaesu, when
finals of
FT-8x7 transceivers were dying like flies?

I keep hearing that many Japanese manufacturers stop supporting
transceivers after a few years.
Any stories about that?

Having an Electraft rig is different. Maybe folks need to take this into
consideration. Me, I would
rather opt for longevity as I'm too poor to afford a product which won't
last.
