I am looking at a solar power system that uses multiple "mini-inverters", Enphase Energy
M215-60-2LL-S2x. They use a data-over-powerline type of system to transmit information to/from the inverters and a central device. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of system re RFI? Does anyone know what frequencies are used by the powerline communications thingy? -- Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

You should ask this question on the RFI list (accessible from contesting.com) (or perhaps search the archives). I think I recall a recent discussion of products from this company. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I haven't been terrribly active in radio over that time but did investigate the noise issue. I was concerned both about the inverters themselves and the powerline modem. I tuned my K2 to 10 meters on a day when it was very quiet and could not hear a difference between having the solar array active or not. I have never noticed any noise I could attribute to the system. My 'shack' is on the second floor directly under the solar aray. As they say, your mileage may vary, but don't think it's a serious issue. I don't know much about the Enphase communication between the inverters and the Envoy interface. They aren't very sharing of technical information. Since I did the noise test I had a problem with the reliability of the power line modem (unrelated to the test) and have gone to a wireles connection from the Enphase interface box (Envoy) to my local network, but that wouldn't effect the communication between the inverters and the interface. Vic,
Not exactly the same model, but you might find this interesting. I have one of these and it does make a little noise; I'm planning to bypass it a bit. BTW, the case on this one seems to be at V/2. http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3219 Leigh/WA5ZNU |

Consider a common mode choke formed by winding turns of the cable carrying the noise through a #31 or #43 ferrite core. Use only #31 below 5 MHz. Both work well above 5 MHz, #43 is slightly better above 20 MHz. See my RFI tutorial for more detailed advice. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
