External Speaker

 Have you tried a deflector tube on the internal speaker to direct the sound toward your head/ears?

Yeah.  I have one of those RS die-cast speakers I've been using since I built my K2 20 years ago.  I use it with other rigs too.  I imagine any small bookshelf speaker would work as well.

Minimus 7.  I pick them up at estate sales.  I have over a half dozen around
here.  I have a pair on my K3S another pair on my TS-890 and a couple+subwoofer
on the AV receiver/TV set. Of course most of the time with the radios I use a
headset and wouldn't dream of using speakers:-)
