FAR OT - Code speed, DX-peditions and contests

Ken Kopp-3
As an Op on a number of DX-peditions ...

It's a simple fact that a major part of funding for trips
like the VP6DX operation comes from the QSL's the
group will receive.  Many/most envelopes will contain
$1 - $5 or more.

The faster you make QSO's the more QSL's in the log
and therefore the more money you will bring in.  There
are other factors involved, but this a significant reason
for CW ... or voice ... speed.

Whether you send 599, 5NN or 5TT can mean amount to
MANY total Q's.  It's all about time.

And then you go to the bank with USD 50k in 1$ notes.

Interesting situation, what with money laundering reporting rules and
everything. I've no doubt that the explanation will be accepted in the
end, but I'd like to be a fly on the wall when you go up to the counter.
