FPLY menu selections

Chuck Gehring
My K2 is working great.  Even after six months I am still exploring and playing with the options.  Last week I started working with the Fast Play option.  I am a little confused with the selections under FPLY.  The first FPLY selection 2-5 is self explanatory, memory keys 2 thru 5 are selected.  However the other available FPLY options are confusing.  45, 458, and 23.  Is there only one available FPLY option?  What do these other FLPY menu items mean?

Chuck

Some buttons are not available for the FastPlay option.
45 means just buttons 4 and 5 can be programmed.  458
means buttons 4, 5 and 8 can be programmed.  23 means 2 and
3 can be programmed.

Good luck and 73

Bob,
Thanks for the reply.  I guess I should have played with it some more before posting the question.  I am just a little reluctant to select an option until I understand what will happen.  Then again I would expect a menu selection that would appear to be more intuitive.  Going in sequence with 2 thru 5 or 2&3, 4&5 makes sense.  The 458 kind of catches you off guard.  Why not 258? then you have keys that go right down the center.  Or just make all of the available keys 23458 available. Not that I would every need or want them all.   I am not complaining or recommending any changes.  God knows I luv my K2 just wondering out loud.

Thanks again

RE: RE: FPLY menu selections

Hi Chuck
Part of the answer is history.  When Wayne developed this feature, he only
had a limited amount of memory to work with.

With these choices, you get to keep access to some buttons that you might
want to use.  When they are reprogrammed to FastPlay, you lose access to the
primary feature of the button.  So, study the buttons used for 2, 3, 4, 5
and
8.  See which ones you want to stay available, then just program the
remainder
for FastPlay messages.

For example, I used to use 3 for the exchange message in a contest, and 4
for my call.  Then 8 is my QRL? button.  However, I'm into contesting fairly
heavily now, and use my laptop running TR LOG  for my contesting logging
program.  It allows me to program all my messages into the F keys across the
top of the keyboard, so I seldom use the FastPlay in the K2 itself anymore.

Good luck and 73
