FT-950 Elite-Class 100 W HF/50 MHz Transceiver announcement

Julius Fazekas n2wn
I thought folks might be interested to read about
this. No price noted... It's one of the raffle prizes
at SEDCO this year.

Looks like some standard K3 items are options on this
one!

Jay Schwisow
Alot of this text comes from the FT 2000 brochure.  Maybe it is a FT
2000 with Version 2.0 software. I personally do not understand why Yaesu
is doing this prior the FT 2000 being stable unless it is replacing the
FT 2000..........

The features of the K3 and the approach that Elecraft is using to bring
this to market (input from dxers, contestors, field testers, pre-built
rig, etc..) will make this the rig of choice for many in the ham
community.   I expect the K3 will  be one of the most popular and highly
regarded rigs of all time.

The FT-950 is kind of a FT-2000 Lite. It has some of the 2000's
features, but the 950 lacks a sub-receiver and internal AC supply.

I'm curious about the price class of the 950- I'd guess something like
$1600.

If this is true, then the K3 will have approximately 20-25 dB better
IMDDR3 and BDR than the FT-950, based on the ARRL's review of the
FT-2000.

I concur Jay, and I suspect the price will be brutal,
not to mention the options.

The option that sounded interesting was the DMU, due
to  the O'scope feature.

I found the timing of the announcement interesting. If
I win it at SECDCO, I might even give it a try...
Nahhhh ;o) The K3 is it fer me!

intro new radios

Charly
In reply to this post by wayne burdick
The big three JA ham radio mfg. use the Big Three automobile makers
marketing plan....

Introduce a top of the line product with big price and great features, then
release a watered down version and then an even more watered down version
and then a super small watered down version.

See how that works?

Conversely, Elecraft started small and is building up.  Interesting.
