FW: P3 Windows Utility Program 1.12.3.11

Richard S. Leary
Works fine here also. Loaded K3 F/W Beta 4.48, then P3 Utility 1.12.3.11,
then used it to upgrade P3 F/W to Ver 1.11. Did screen capture, OK. But I
still do not have a P3SVGA on order yet. No problems with downloads, but I
make sure to run a serial cable directly from the PC to the K3, download
F/W, then switch the cable from the K3 to the P3 and download F/W again.
Nothing in between the equipment and the PC. Do not put a microKEYER in
between, it doesn't work. Been there, done that. Just ask Joe. Oh yes,
running Win 7/64bit.

Thanks Elecraft for a K3/100K and P3 that have NEVER failed in almost 2
years. Good "ears", good power, good knobs. I love 'em.

This past weekend I loaded the 1.11 firmware onto my P3
and today I installed the 1.12.3.11 utility program on
my Windows XP SP3 machine.

When capturing an image, the File->Save As only
stays highlighted for a brief time and using it
looks like it should be saving a file when clicking
OK to the file window that pops-up with the File->Save As,
but no file is saved.

This worked correctly with the previous version of this utility.

Is anyone else having this problem??

Re: FW: P3 Windows Utility Program 1.12.3.11

Dick Dievendorff
Thanks, Rick.

I think now it's related to operating at 115,200 bps.  I had a few flakey
results from time to time at that speed as well.

I use an ABCD switch and about 15 feet of RS-232 jumper cables between my PC
with an old KUSB USB to Serial adapter and the various Elecraft devices.
It's been solid up to 57,600 but a little dodgy at 115,200.

Re: FW: P3 Windows Utility Program 1.12.3.11

Jim Sheldon
Haven't received my shipping notice yet from Elecraft on the P3SVGA, but I have loaded FW 1.11 into the P3.  (Did this with the old utility before I realized there was a new one out.) and the P3 load went just fine even with the old utility.  However as expected, it would not recognize the new baud rates until after I D/L the new utility.

In the new utility, the screen capture/save file works okay for me even at 115.200.  I was able to save it to desktop or any other directory on the computer I tried.  I am, however, running all this on an old Dell 8100 Pentium IV running Windows XP Pro.  The RS-232 chain is pretty short, 2' from the computer to the P3 using the cables supplied by Elecraft for computer-P3-K3.

I use Scott, N3FJP's logging programs.  He doesn't support 115.2K but does have 57.6K in it  (calls it 56 but it works just fine.)

Screen capture is certainly a heck of a lot faster at 115.2 than 38.4 - ;) but it does appear to be jerky on the computer screen - that's just windows multi-tasking other stuff at the same time, I'm sure.

Due to the baud rate limit of 57.6K in my loggers, think I'll just set it there and leave it at that.  Now, maybe Wayne will eventually get around to changing the K3 itself to show the higher baud rates (unless the P3 is doing a buffer and translating the RS232 speeds down to 38.4 for the K3).
