I have wanted to use different mikes with my K2s, so I made up some plugs
that fit the 16 pin mike header. I wanted to eliminate the 8 jumpers, and I also
wanted to eliminate the 5.6K resistor at the back of the mike connector.
Making up plugs for the Elecraft MH-2 and various Kenwood mikes is easy. Making
up plugs for Icom and Yaesu mikes is a little more difficult. The 5.6K
resistor is mounted between pin row 1 and 6 on the plug for the MH-2. The pins in
each row are bent towards each other flat against the plug and soldered
together. One pin in row 1 and row 6 is bent to the outside for the resistor. Make
sure the pins in rows 1 and 6 are soldered together. For Kenwood mikes all
pin rows are soldered together except row 6. Row 6 pins are cut off. The plugs
I used can be purchased at Mouser for $2.38 each. They are Mouser stock #
649-68683-308, 2x8 DUBOX .100 vertical PCB mounted receptacle assemblies low
profile and can be found on page 785 of catalog 618 May - July 2004.
Usual disclaimer. I have no interest in Mouser Electronics. Roy Morris
